June 8th - Scooter Day

We took the scooter out for some rides today. There is a road that goes right through camp called Hardin Flat road. We thought it was part of Yosemite Lakes. It turns out it is a county road although it is barely used. We took the scooter on it towards Yosemite. I wish we had taken pictures but it was AWESOME! It looked like a Europeon medieval single lane road. Heavily forested and lots of fern. Went for about 5 miles and let us out very close to Yosemite National Park entrance.  We were getting low on fuel (or that's the excuse we used) so we went into the park to refuel. Believe it or not the fuel inside the park is cheaper by .30 cents an gallon then where we are at. Actually at 55 npg and with only about 1.75 gallon fuel tank it really doesn't matter but it was fun to ride into the park.
We came back on Hardin Flat road. There must have been 10% grades on it, but the little scooter kept chugging away.
We had heard there was a picnic area called Rainbow Pools with a small waterfall about 3 or 4 miles the other side of camp. We went back and packed a cooler with some fruit, jerky and nuts and headed out again on the scooter.

You can see the scooter windshield and handlebars behind the fence in the picture above. This was in the parking lot at Rainbow Pools. We had our lunch snack here while watching kids jump off the rock next to the falls you see below.

Rainbow Falls and Pool
If you look closely in the middle of the picture below you can see a boy in midair. He has just jumped off the rock where the other guy is sitting. I can assure you the water is FREEZING! A girl had jumped later and was waiting for the same boy to jump again. She was saying she was getting hypothermia. Maybe not quite but this is snow runoff!

Flying!
On the way back to camp we had heard that on Sawmill Mountain Road there are places that you can get cell service. We stopped at an overlook and called and talked to Crystal and James, Matthew, Cynthia, and my mom and dad. We were able to tell my parents that baby Gracie is a girl. Just before we left, RV Bill called. That was really good timing since there is no phone service anywhere except down in Yosemite Valley itself!

All for today..
