Thursday, July 20th

We are now at Whalers Rest in Newport, Oregon and have better phone and data so I am going to try and catch up with the blog.

On Thursday we were still in Pacific City and it was laundry day. There is a trail from the campground to the beach so we decided to hike it.

Beach Trail
The sign and trail are between two campsites and goes several hundred yards to a gate. The gate is locked at night. You go down some steps and then have to cross a highway. There are signs up warning traffic as well as crossing markings in the street. On the the other side of the street there are steps to climb back up the other side. You then walk the trail about a quarter mile down to the beach.

Continue down the trail
The trail continues all the way to the beach. The vegetation started getting thicker!

Brush getting thicker
One thing we forgot to tell you in the last blog is that on the way to Pacific City from Seaside, on Highway 101 we saw several people stopped at Garibaldi, Oregon looking up at a large tree. We couldn't stop with the big 5th wheel in tow, but we could clearly see a HUGE bald eagle perched on top! That's the second bald eagle we have seen on our awesome adventure!!!

Almost there!
After we took this picture we thought we were in the clear. Then we got to a brush tunnel!

Tunnel
Even Patty had to duck to go through here! After going through the tunnel it opened up to a bunch of rocks and we realized we could drive the truck down here. We did that later!

Opened up here
You can see tire marks in the sand. Trucks had been here on this section.

Driving on the beach
There must have been a truck stuck in the sand on the other side of these rocks. An old tow truck that looked like Mater from CARS waited for the waves to go out and then rushed past those rocks to get on the other side. We climbed up to see what had happened but couldn't see anybody, so we are not sure where it went. We do know that you can get back out on the other side, so maybe he was just goofing off!

Low Tide
On the weekend was Dory Days which is an annual festival in Pacific City. I will try to catch up on that tomorrow.

Love you all!
Brian and Patty
