It was a beautiful day so we decided to give Cannon Beach another chance without the rain. We rode the scooter because it was such a nice day. It is only about 10 miles to Cannon Beach.
We started by going to Ecola State Park. We didn't get any pictures because we just did a ride through but it was amazing. The ride in was actually dark because the trees were so thick. Also heavy fern all along the drive. We came around a bend and there were four elk standing in the road! They were all female because they did not have any antlers, but they were huge. Would not have wanted to hit them on the scooter, or in the truck! We watched them for a minute before we continued on.
We then went to a park on the outskirts of town to view the famous Haystack Rock. Haystack Rock to Cannon Beach is like Morro Rock is Morro Bay. You can see the tip on the distance.

After walking around town we worked up an appetite. Patty had her Fish and Chips the other day, the other thing she has been wanting is clam chowder in a sourdough bowl. Word is that Mo's Clam Chowder restaurant in Cannon Beach is the place for chowder. We rode over to Tolovana Park where Mo's is located so Patty could have her chowder.
Here is the view from Tolovana Park just outside Mo's. Just to the right of the left most rock you can see Tilamook Rock Lighthouse. The Lighthouse is not near Tilamook but is in fact 1.3 miles offshore from Ecola State Park. It is also no longer a lighthouse but was gutted and turned into a Columbarium. What that means is ashes of cremated persons are placed in the lighthouse. The Columbarium is in limbo now, because payments were late, but money is trying to be raised to resuscitate it.

Patty got the Clam Chowder bowl, I got the Chili Bowl. All is made fresh at Mo's, even the Sourdough bowls!

Here is my Chili Bowl. You can also see that we are right by the window.

After lunch which also ended up being diner we started back but stopped at a Farmers Market in Cannon Beach. The only thing we bought was some tasty sourdough bread from a bakery in Astoria. I guess the bread bowls got to us!
We miss Matthew and Crystal bunches, but retirement is fun. It is nice being able to decide to take this side trek, or that one. Go to the farmers market or the state park.
We'll see some of you next month at Stevies wedding and the rest in September!
Love you all!
Brian and Patty
