We pulled into Whalers Rest Thousand Trails for a week and a half. Our great friends Bill and Jenn Gehr were already at Whalers Rest and were staying until the same day we were leaving on August 20th.
We really like Whalers Rest and the Newport area.

The Oregon Coast is beautiful here. Everywhere you look is another view like this.

You can usually see at least one whale in Depoe Bay and on this day we did. We could not get a picture of it, but it still makes an awesome picture with the fog and low clouds.

Many places to hike around here. Wild Marrionberries and Blackberries everywhere.

We came across this broken motorhome but decided to keep our rig! LOL!

One of the highlights of the trip was kayaking on the Beaver Creek. We had never kayaked before, but it was a blast!
|
Kayaking |
Oregon State takes people out on a guided 4 mile river tour. It costs $20.00 per person which includes the kayak, paddles, vest and guide. Really a bargain!

Here are Patty and Brian in their kayaks. After the training it was really pretty easy.

Bill and Jenn have Kayaked before and are pretty good at it. They took a tandem kayak.

We saw Otters and Bald Eagles. The beavers come out in the late afternoon so although we did see their "nests" we did not see the beavers. We also so osprey. Here are two bald eagles. On on the dead looking tree and one on the green one. They were looking out for their offspring that were across the river. The "teanager" eagles do not yet have the white or bald heads.

Bald Eagles |
Here is a close-up of the eagle. They are so majestic looking in person! We have seen bald eagles in the wild before, but never two so close together. They are so much more glorious in the wild then at the zoo!

After getting our workout Patty wanted a hamburger. We heard that the Newport Cafe had some serious ones! We opted for the 2 Lb. Monster Burger. It was only $9.95 and included a 1 Lb. beef patty, cheese, fried egg, ham, fried onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, etc. It also came with soup or fries. We got the Clam Chowder for Patty and some fries.

You cut slices off of the hamburger to eat it. We of course couldn't finish it. We also took home most of the fries! Believe it or not the burger was great!
Well that's it for today,
God Bless you,
Brian and Patty
