Lake Conroe and Willis, Tx

This is our campsite at the Lake Conroe Thousand Trails. There is a lot of space between sites which we really like. So many of the parks they try to squeeze as may people in such a small area.

Lake Conroe TT
We found a new family park just about 1.5 miles away from the campground with some walking trails and decided to go check it out. It is called John Burge Park.

John Burge Park
There were some walking trails and even an 18 hole Frisbee Golf course. This was the group area. A family was having a birthday party for a kid here.

We decided to check out the trails. Here is the sign for the trails.

Trail system
We took the Oak trail which is a little over 6/10 of a mile. It was a nice meandering trail.

Oak Trail
The Oak trail went around the Disc Golf Course. It is an 18 hole Frisbee course. Here is the sign for the 13th hole.

13th hole
This is the hole. You start on the cement pad and throw towards the metal basket. Most of the holes are not straight like this one and you have to curve around trees.

Course
After we left the park we decided to go into Willis and eat lunch at the 'Original Super Burger'. Super burger has been featured on both the History channel and Discovery channel so we had to try it!

Super Burger
We both had their regular burger, fries and drink. It was a GREAT burger. A young man and his girlfriend sat next to us. They were locals. She offered him $100.00 if he could eat the Bellybuster challenge! The Bellybuster is almost a 5 lb. bacon cheeseburger!

Bellybuster!
This is a huge burger! We were full eating our 1/4 pounders! but this one is so big it is just plain funny! We stayed to see if he would finish it. We were pulling for him.

Cutting the burger
He cut it into 5 pie type slices. The burger was $19.95 which really isn't bad when you consider it would feed a whole family. He and his girlfriend were very nice people. It was fun sharing this experience with them.

Now for the results......

Unfortunately he came up short. He missed it by a little more then a slice, but he ate almost 4/5th of the burger, almost 4 lbs. We were impressed. He did not get his photo in the 'Wall of Fame", nor did he get his special t-shirt, but he did get a belly ache! LOL!

Belly Buster final
That's all for today,
Love you all,
Brian and Patty

Houston, Tx

We are staying at Lake Conroe Thousand Trails for 2 weeks. Wen needed to do a Costco run which is in Houston which is about 40 miles away. We decided to make a day of it. We first went to an RV parts store called PPL. It is a major mail order place on the internet. We picked up some items we needed for the 5th wheel.

We then went to Costco to pick up some items we needed.

After that we went to the Port of Houston to the M/V Sam Houston boat for a tour of the Port of Houston. It is a 90 minute boat tour the Houston Port Authority conducts. I was looking for things to do in Houston and to my surprise it was actually a FREE boat tour! They advertised that you could not take pictures or video anywhere!

No pictures allowed!
I asked an employee why this was not allowed? He said it was no problem, he was giving approval! So we started taking pictures. Patty heard some people bad talking us behind us about those bad people taking those pictures! LOL! Busybodies!!

Here is a picture of the M/S Sam Houston, the boat we are taking on the port tour.

M/S Sam Houston
We left the dock and headed 10 miles up the channel.

Port Authority Docks
The cruise started out with complimentary coffee. The captain gave narration about different ships and businesses along the channel. Here is the U.S. Navy Cape Texas from Norfolk, VA.

Cape Texas
There was a combination of freighter ships, barges, and Oil ships in the channel. In the background the bridge is Interstate 10.

Interstate 10
At about the 10 mile mark we saw the Historical Marker where Santa Anna relinquish control of Texas to Sam Houston. The boat turned around and we were given cans of sodas.

On the way back you could see the Houston Skyscape over the 10 freeway.

The Texas flag on the front of the boat.

Texas! Wahoo!
Coming back we took the HOV lane. This is like the Diamond lanes in California except there is only one going with the evening traffic. In the morning it goes the other way. It has K-Rails separating it from the regular lanes so people can not go in and out ILLEGALLY like they do in L.A. Only every 5 miles or so it has off and on ramps with gates to get on and off. Because the K-Rails the regular lanes were stop and go, but the HOV was going 55-60 miles an hour! I suppose if someone broke down it would cause problems, but it worked for us! If you don't have at least 2 people in the car you can also pay $5.00 to use the lane. That was only possible from the start of it and only with a prepaid pass.

That's it for today,

Love you,
Brian and Patty
