Heading to South Dakota

We are heading to South Dakota to take care of business. We are leaving Las Vegas on Tuesday and will be traveling a little more then 1000 miles in three days.

Our first night we stayed in Fillmore, Utah at a Passport America Park called Wagons West RV Park. It had large pull through sites so we were able to leave our 5th wheel hooked up. Today we drove 281 miles. The next few days we are not doing any sightseeing as these are just travel days meant to get to South Dakota.

Wagons West RV Park - Fillmore, UT
As we headed up Interstate 15 and turned up the I80 past Park City our new truck really showed us what a beast it is! We were able to keep it in cruise control and maintain 60+ mph speeds up 6-7% grades. The old truck would have struggled up this grade. These new generation trucks are really amazing!

We arrived in Wyoming. For some reason there are no cheap campgrounds in Wyoming. At least not where we are traveling. Some fairgrounds have RV sites they will rent out when they do not have any events happening. They are usually a better price then regular campgrounds. We found such a deal in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

This is the Sweetwater Events Center. They have 1200 full hookup RV spots that are full during their county fair. The day we arrived there was only 5 other rigs there! They charge $25.00 per night which is a little pricey, but for Wyoming it is the cheapest I could find.

Rock Springs, WY
You can see that there are boards between the spaces. The hookups are way behind the rear boards. I found a double spot and went in sideways to get closer to the hookups so I didn't have to unhook the truck. Because there was only 6 of us there, the camp host did not mind! LOL.

On this leg of the trip we have driven 303 miles.

Our last stop before we arrived in South Dakota was Lusk, Wyoming. The only discount they were supposed to offer was Good Sam's 10%. The reason I said supposed to offer was because when I arrived and started to pay I was informed they no longer offered it. This was the most we have paid at a campground to date at $37.00. Since it was only 1 night and the only other park in town was not as nice and higher, we stayed. Today's leg of the trip was 331 miles.

Lusk, WY
We arrived at Hart Ranch in Rapid City, SD on Friday morning. It was only 144 miles from Lusk, Wy to Hart Ranch. Hart Ranch is an RPI park so we are supposed to stay for $10.00 a night. They do charge an extra $5.00 electricity charge, but we think Hart Ranch is about the nicest place we have stayed at!

Hart Ranch Rapid City, SD
This is our campsite #189 we were assigned at Hart Ranch. So many places we go to are called "Resorts". Hart Ranch really deserves that moniker.

Hart Ranch Site #189
We are here for 2 weeks. We will get our drivers licenses, set up our voter registration and solidify our South Dakota domicile. While we are here we will also do a lot of sightseeing. If we get a chance we will also try to rest up from our quick trip here!

Love you,
God Bless,
Brian and Patty

Leaving Las Vegas!

As I mentioned earlier, Patty's sister Cynthia and my cousin's wife Debra drove to Vegas to meet up with Patty and their other good friend's Jody and Rick who have moved to Las Vegas. Patty, Cynthia, Debra and Jody used to get together monthly at each others house to play penny poker and just to get together. Once a year they would take a trip to Vegas together. As I said Jody and Rick have moved here. With Patty and I traveling on the time the monthly poker parties are no more!

Since two of us (Jody and Patty) were in Vegas now, Debra and Cynthia decided to drive here on Thursday and get together. They all, including Patty stayed at Rick and Jody's house while they were here, so I was fending for myself for a few days.

On Tuesday they headed home. Patty needed to be back in the Ventura area on Saturday for our future daughter-in-law Jasmine's bridal shower. Debra was nice enough to let her hitch a ride home. Cynthia opened her home to Patty until Sunday when she flew back to Vegas.

Patty said the shower was very nice. People really blessed Jasmine with wonderful gifts!

Here is Patty, Jasmine and Jasmine's mother Maria at the shower.

While we were in Vegas we found an outstanding and inexpensive buffet. Vegas buffets used to be cheap, but they have now become $15-$30 dollars. I would rather eat at a restaurant where the food is better!
We were told about a buffet at the Silver Sevens Casino. You can get two for one coupons all the time, so it only costs $9.99 for two!! Every night they have a very good brisket. Here is a picture of an end cut I requested. Also the other food is very good.

Brisket
For breakfast it is $5.99 for two. I went once when Patty was in Ventura. With the coupon they will give you 50% off for one person. So it was only $3.00! They even make fresh omelettes for you! Now that's a buffet we can believe in! LOL

We went to a huge church in Henderson called Central Christian Church. They have five services over Saturday and Sunday with about 20,000 people! The worship is amazing and the teaching is also wonderful. Having said that, it is still not as good as New Life Community, our home church.

On Memorial Day this guy sang "I'm Proud to Be an American"! One of the best renditions I've ever heard and brought tears to everyone's eyes!

Now we are on are way to Hart Ranch in Rapid City, South Dakota Via Filmore, Utah, Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Lusk, Wyoming. We will unhook the 5th wheel in those towns as we will be driving about 300 miles a day. Just resting and driving.

Tell you more when we arrive in South Dakota.

Love you,
Brian and Patty
